PHN Hüsso Tex: German-made washable matt paint that wipes clean again and again. £34.99 for 5 litres.
Muddy hands on the hallway wall. Crayon in the kids' room. Splashes by the cooker. With most paints, scrubbing these off leaves a shiny patch or rubs the paint away.
PHN Hüsso Tex is different. It's made in Germany to the highest washability standard, so you can wipe it clean again and again and it still looks freshly painted. Big-name washable paints usually cost £60 or more for 5 litres. Hüsso Tex is £34.99.
Made in Cologne, Germany
Hüsso Tex is made by Peter Hüssen Nachfolger Farben GmbH, a specialist paint manufacturer in Cologne. They make a full range of primers, interior paints and facade paints for German decorators, and Hüsso Tex is their go-to paint for walls that take a beating. It's now available in the UK from One Stop Render Supplies in Slough.
Why It's Different
Most matt paints look great but mark easily. Most wipeable paints are tougher but have a sheen. Hüsso Tex gives you both: the soft, flat look of a quality matt paint with a surface tough enough to scrub. Wipe off fingerprints, scuffs and food splashes without leaving shiny patches.
Key Features
- Smooth, even matt finish for walls and ceilings
- Wipes clean again and again: top-rated for washability
- Excellent coverage, often just one coat on similar colours
- Very low odour and emissions (VOC under 1 g/l)
- Solvent-free and plasticiser-free
- Ready to use and drip-resistant
- Apply by brush, roller or spray
- White, and can be tinted (up to 5% colourant)
Where to Use It
Hallways and stairs · kitchens · children's rooms · playrooms · offices · schools · rental properties · anywhere walls get touched a lot.
How Far Does It Go?
One 5-litre tub covers roughly 35 m² (about 7 m² per litre, depending on the surface). As one coat is usually enough, that's a finished wall for around £1 per square metre.
How to Apply
- Make sure walls are clean, dry and firm. Remove any loose or flaking old paint.
- Prime new plasterboard and very absorbent surfaces with PHN Tiefgrund LF first.
- Stir the paint well. Use it straight from the tub, or add up to 5% water if needed.
- Apply by brush, roller or spray. Leave about 12 hours before a second coat (at 20°C).
- Don't paint below +5°C, and always try a small test area first.
